Gayle Ann Owens was born on December 21, 1953, in Raton, New Mexico to the late Bill and Shirley (Wiggins) Briant. She grew up in the Cimarron Valley of New Mexico and May, Oklahoma, before moving to Shallowater, Texas. It was there that she met the love of her life, Buz Owens, and graduated from high school in 1972. Gayle attended Texas Tech University before marrying Buz in 1973 and relocating to the Dallas area. She continued her education at North Texas State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in education and a master’s degree in speech therapy.

Gayle began her career with the Dallas Independent School District as a Speech Therapist. Later, after moving to Grapevine, she joined the Creative Learning Center at the First Grapevine Methodist Church. She devoted more than 20 years to the center and touched the lives of countless children and families, eventually retiring as an administrator.

In 2007, she and Buz purchased their retirement home and property just west of Gatesville. Together, they became active and faithful members of Boots N Saddle Cowboy Church, where Gayle helped lead the Women’s Monday Night Bible Study. In her free time, she cherished reading, nurturing her many lifelong friendships, and—above all—spending time with her family and helping anyone in need..

Gayle was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Shirley Briant, and infant sister, Bobbie Jean Carter.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 52 years, Buz Owens; sons, Jordan Owens and wife Kristi, and Travis Owens and wife Shan Wang; her brothers, George Briant and wife Beth, and Scott Briant; and her four cherished granddaughters, Paige, Claire, Tatum, and Dylan Owens.
