Frankie Helena Russell

Frankie Russell, “Omaw”, 87, of Bishop, Texas, passed away peacefully in her home on July 22, 2025.

Visitation for Frankie will be held on Friday, August 1st, 2025, from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m., at Scott’s Funeral Home, 2425 East Main Street, Gatesville, Texas. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Upon conclusion, burial will be at Ater Cemetery in Ater, Coryell County, Texas.

She was born Frankie Helena Norcross, on January 6, 1938, in Fort Worth, Texas, the third of four daughters of Frank and Helena Norcross. Frankie Russell was a beloved member of the Kingsville and Bishop communities. She graduated from Paschal High School in Fort Worth, Texas, in 1956. Following her graduation, she attended Texas Wesleyan University, where she met and married Jimmy Russell in 1958.

In January 1961, the couple relocated to Kingsville, Texas, where Frankie became deeply involved in various community organizations, including the First United Methodist Church of Kingsville, the Kingsville Women’s Club, the Christian Women’s Club of Kingsville, and the Bowling League.

In 1971, Jimmy and Frankie moved the family to Bishop, Texas, where her commitment to community service continued. She remained an active member of the Kingsville Women’s Club, where she also participated in the Kingsville Follies. She also joined the Bishop First United Methodist Church and Choir, the Bishop Music Study Club, the Hardin Study Club, and the United Methodist Women’s Club. Throughout the years, she held numerous leadership positions for these organizations. Notably, Frankie served on the Bishop Centennial Committee in 2010.

A dedicated mother, Frankie was actively involved in her children’s education. She demonstrated her support as a member of the Bishop Band Boosters, and the PTA. Further, she led numerous activities for the United Methodist Youth Fellowship (UMYF), Vacation Bible School, and Cub Scouts. Recognizing the need for a yearbook for Bishop Junior High, she took the initiative to produce the 1982 yearbook, ensuring students would have a lasting keepsake. In recognition of her contributions to the community, the City of Bishop honored Frankie as 2002 Outstanding Citizen. Additionally, she built a successful career with Avon, earning the President’s Club Award each year from 2002 to 2013. She was also the recipient of the Spirit of Avon award for District 1854 for 2003-2004, reflecting her dedication and commitment to excellence. Frankie Russell leaves behind a legacy of Christian service, leadership, and love for her community and family. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Frankie was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Helena Norcross and sisters Barbara Florey, LaVerne Taylor, and Shirley Eason.

Frankie is survived by her husband of 67 years, Jimmy Y. Russell, her daughter, Shelley Russell Stogsdill (Robert) of San Antonio, and sons Todd Russell (Marcie) of Lewisville, and Sean Russell (Lucy) of Duncanville; grandchildren Russell Stogsdill (Chelsea), Oliver-Pierce Stogsdill (Samantha), Hillary Stogsdill Velasquez (Gabriel), Hannah Stogsdill, Ryan Russell, Katie Russell Morris (Brian), Lucy Russell Merry (Ana), Sydney Russell Arellano (David), Logan Russell (Mackenzie), Weston Russell, and Tristan Russell; great-grandchildren Blake Stogsdill, Charles Stogsdill, Quinn Stogsdill, and Caldwell Stogsdill, and triplets Juno Merry, Lucy Merry, and Wren Merry will be arriving soon. She is also survived by many cherished nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who continued to call and support her until the Lord called her home.
