Eugene Clary

Eugene (“Gene” or “Nick”) Freeland Clary passed away in the early morning hours, Sunday, November 30, 2025, in Gatesville, TX. He was 95. As Gene liked to say with his wonderful dry sense of humor, he suffered from an “Acute Deficiency of Youth”.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 21, at the First Presbyterian Church, 600 North Rice Street, Hamilton, Texas, 76531.

Born in Sweetwater TX, May 1, 1930, Gene was the son of Martin D. Clary and Bessie Freeland Clary. He was the 3rd of 5 children.  His eldest brother was Rev. Earl “Rip” Clary, his older sister, Pauline “Peggy” Barnhart, his younger brother John A. Clary, and his youngest brother was the Rev. D. Robert “Ham” Clary. Gene is also predeceased by his 1st wife of 63 years, Mineko “Judy” Clary, as well as brothers Rip and John, and sister Peg.

Gene was undeniably a man of service. He was a career Army soldier serving during both the Korean and Viet Nam Wars. After retiring from the Army, Gene worked in various hospitals in Nevada and Texas, and notably for many years in Hamilton and the Texas prison system in Gatesville. During the decades he lived in Hamilton with his wife Judy, Gene attended the First Presbyterian Church where he routinely was the first to arrive, unlock the doors, prepare the communion, and then the last to leave after cleanup. Gene was also active in the Lions Club of Hamilton, and later in Gatesville.

Gene and Judy were avid golfers, and in their early years, they were bowlers as well.

Gene is survived by his current loving wife, Bonnie Clary, his son David E. Clary and his wife Lynd, his daughter June C. Ingram and her husband Jason, his youngest brother Rev. D. Robert Clary, grandson Bryan, granddaughter Kelly and her husband Alex Gomez, and granddaughter Kyle and her husband Kenny Beaudette. He is also survived by his three great grandchildren Avery, Emilia and Rocco Beaudette, and finally his nieces and nephews, too numerous to mention.

He will be dearly missed!
