Estelle "Sissy" Lovejoy Newton

Estelle “Sissy” Lovejoy Newton, age 105 of Copperas Cove passed away Saturday, August 8, 2026, in Waco, Texas. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 12 at Pidcoke Cemetery with Pastor Zach Huckabee officiating. 

Sissy was born on November 15, 1920, near Pidcoke, Texas to the late Dewey B. Lovejoy and Stella Waddill Lovejoy. She was born in her Grandparents ranch house that was located on present-day Fort Hood near Cow House Creek. Sissy attended school in Gatesville, Texas and graduated from Gatesville High School in 1938. Sissy and Cecil grew up, met and married in Pidcoke in July of 1940, and after Cecil’s service in World War II, operated the store in Pidcoke for many years. In 1956 the family moved to Copperas Cove where Sissy worked at the Cove State Bank. All remember her kind and thoughtful service each day as a bank teller. After retirement, Sissy and Cecil spent many, many years at their ranch in Pidcoke where Sissy enjoyed caring for generations of cows and calves. Sissy lived a long and independent life as a wife, mother, grandmother, and rancher.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Lee Newton Sr. in 2016, her son David Lynn Newton in 1970, and daughter-in-law Patricia Newton in 2019.

Sissy is survived by her son Cecil Lee Newton Jr. of Pidcoke; two grandsons, Brandon Newton and his wife Lilla from Denver, Colorado and Jeffery Newton and his wife Amy from Plano, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Molly Newton Bumstead, Capt. Jack Newton, and Alex Newton.
