Emily Adeline Young

Emily Adeline Ament Young, age 99 of Gatesville, passed away on Tuesday, June 3, 2025.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 6, 2025 at Scott’s Funeral Home with Rev. Stephen Schmidt officiating. The family will welcome visitors one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Emily Young was born January 25, 1926 to the late Kay Dean and Emma Jewell Grimes Ament in Canyon, Texas. Her family moved to Gatesville where she grew up and attended all of her school years. She graduated from Gatesville High School in 1943. Emily attended Baylor University for two years. She worked as a secretary at the Gatesville State School for Boys, for the Eason and Eason Law Firm in Waco, at the VA Hospital in Waco and for the United States Air Force in Waco, Denver and Wiesbaden, Germany.

She married Hayden Young on October 31, 1959 in the Jonesboro Methodist Parsonage. They farmed and ranched all their married life until Hayden’s passing on August 21, 2009. They were members of the First Methodist Church in Gatesville.

Emily was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Hayden Young; brother, Douglas Lowrey Ament; and sister, Doris Dean Coward and her husband, Byrom.

She is survived by her sons, John Hayden Young and wife, Sherri and Douglas Dan Young and wife, Marion; four grandchildren, Josh Young and wife, Chelsea, Jacob Young, Cassidy Young and Riley Miller; six great grandchildren; two sisters, Laverne Harris and Kay Herring and husband, Bill; and one brother, Billy Clyde Ament.
