Edna Ruth Penny

Edna Ruth Penny, of Pearl, Texas, went home to be with Jesus on June 29, 2026. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 8 at Pearl Country Church.

Ruth was born in Pearl on May 24, 1936, to the late Earl Mike and Edna Hampton. Ruth was the youngest of four girls. She graduated from Pearl High School in 1954. Ruth was the last Hampton to graduate from Pearl schools after 42 years of Hampton’s attending. She was a homemaker, a seamstress and worked many years as a legal secretary.

Ruth married Hugh Richard Penny from Leon Junction on February 10, 1956, and they spent their married life in Pearl. Richard and Ruth celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this year. Their union produced three children, eleven grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Edna Hampton, and her three sisters, Helen McClendon, Earlene Bischoff, and Annell Delord.

She is survived by her husband, Richard Penny; children, Connie Long, Don and Leora Penny, and Mike Penny; grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren; and many loved ones.
