Louis Dwain Turner was born to Jessie Louis “J.L.” and Eddie Short Turner on July 12, 1943, at home in Mullin, Texas and began school at the age of four. After moving as a young child to Ireland Texas, he enjoyed hunting and fishing on their family ranch throughout his childhood and adult years. He graduated at age 16 from Gatesville High School in December 1959. After graduation, he attended Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas for one year and learned how to drink nickel beer and play pool. He married Glenice DeBolt on April 28, 2001 at the Turner Ranch.

Dwain was passionate about working. He farmed, cut and hauled hay for many local ranchers around Ireland and Jonesboro, built fence, raised, goats, cattle, and hogs. He ran Evant Livestock in the early 70’s before getting back into the hog business. After a tragic fire that wiped out his entire herd of hogs in the early 80’s, he returned to the cattle business where he started Turner Livestock. He ran a cattle buying business, along with his own cattle and worked closely with Cattle Empire and Paul Brown in Southwestern Kansas.  He took pride in his partnerships and delivering excellent service to his clients and partners. He bought cattle up until his death. Dwain was known as “Turner” amongst his friends and around all the auction barns. Many local cattle auctions are honoring his memory with a moment of silence this week.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Martha Turner Frederick.

Dwain is survived by his wife, Glenice Turner, daughter, Melissa Turner Ronacher and husband, Kurt; two granddaughters, Kaylin Ronacher Gordon and husband, Alec and McKenzie Ronacher; nephew, Todd Frederick and wife, Emily; and their children, George and Alex.
