Dorothy Cummings

Dorothy Cummings, age 90, of Gatesville passed away on Friday, December 13, 2019. Funeral Services will be at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at Scott’s Funeral Home with burial following at Restland Cemetery. Visitation will be an hour prior to the service.

Dorothy was born on August 3, 1929 to the late Edward and Lorena Petty Necessary in Gatesville, Texas. She grew up in the King Community and attended school at Plainview and graduated from Gatesville High School in 1947. Dorothy moved to Temple and worked as a secretary when she met Herm Cummings. They married on November 19, 1965 and lived in Gatesville. Dorothy was a member of the Church of Christ.  After she retired, she started watching Riley, Kyla and Colton and loved them as if they were her own.  Dorothy was an excellent seamstress and a wonderful cook.  She loved everyone she came across and made them feel like family. She was lovingly referred to as Granny Dorothy, Do - Do and Gram. 

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Herm Cummings; daughter, Yvonne Strickland; and a grandson, Brandon Strickland.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Wanda Turk and husband, Ronnie; son-in-law, Cecil Strickland; a daughter in spirit, Joyce Sandig; grandchildren; Leanna Bates and husband, Billy, Karie McNiel, Tracy Sweitzer; and numerous great grandchildren including Peyton, Zach, Haley, Cody, Caden, and Taylor.
