Donna Jean Lewis

Donna Lewis, age 73 of Gatesville, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, June 22, 2026 while residing at The Meadows in Gatesville.

A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Patton Baptist Church in Valley Mills, Texas.

Donna Jean Lewis was born on September 26, 1952 in Waco, Texas to the late Donald and Peggy Etchison Markley. She attended school in Canyon Country, California and graduated from Sierra High School in 1970. In April 1970, she married Reid Lewis, and together they made their home in Canyon Country, California. Reid’s career with the National Park Service took them to many locations throughout the United States during the early years of their marriage before they eventually settled on family land in Coryell County.

Although she never had children of her own, Donna adored her nieces, nephews, great niece, and great nephews and cherished every opportunity to spend time with them. She became better known to everyone as “Sasha” once her great niece Jadyn learned to talk. Some of her hobbies included photography, picnics with her cows, nature walks, shopping, and attending movies. She had a deep love for animals and rescued animals of all kinds, which was evident by her many pets. She was also a caregiver for several years for her mother and her stepfather, Currie Polk. Donna attended Patton Baptist Church where she made many lifelong friends.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Currie Polk; half-sister, Martha Quimet; and a nephew, Jonathan Blanchard.

She is survived by her sister, Carol Chapman and husband, Mark; step-sister, Beverley McCauley and husband, Gerald; half-brother, Steve Markley and wife, Wynona of California; nephew, Jason Blanchard and wife, Julie; nieces, Jasmine McKain and husband, Zach, and Kristen Koster and husband, Luke Allen; great nieces, Jadyn Blanchard, and Paisley Allen; great nephews, Travis McKain, and Jaxson Koster; and many other step nieces and nephews.
