Donna Faye Gummelt, age 78, passed away on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at her home in Gatesville.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 8, 2025, at Scott’s Funeral Home with Pastor Wray Nunn officiating. Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Donna was born May 2, 1947 in the Hubbard Community, located on Fort Hood, to the late Thomas and Zela Altum. She worked at the Army Surplus and for Walls Industries for many years before starting her career as a Correctional Officer for the Woodman State Jail, retiring after 15 years.
Donna enjoyed traveling, fishing, shopping, playing bingo, and above all else, her family. She looked forward to any holiday and opportunity to spend time with the people she loved and cherished the most. She spent all hours of the night preparing holiday meals with hopes that it would be ready by lunch, only to hear “alright let’s eat” at 3 p.m. After sitting until midnight, she always asked, “what’s your hurry?” She loved telling stories about her life and the places she’d been. Donna experienced losses that left everlasting holes in her heart with voids no one could ever fill. One thing is certain: As she walked up those stairs to the Pearly Gates of Heaven, she was greeted by all the loved ones she’s grieved for so long.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Horace O’Dale Gummelt; sister, Bobby Alice Altum; brother, Harold Altum and wife, Audrey; sons, Terry Douglas Key and Bradley Lynn Key; grandsons, Brandon Kyle Anderson and Mathew “Matto” Key; and many cousins whom she adored.
She is survived by her sons, Curtis Key and Fiancé, Breta, Randy Key and wife, Lisa, and Chad Key; daughter, Sheila Salter and husband, Chuck; brother, Danny Altum and wife, Sandra; stepdaughters, Vickie Turner and husband, Todd, and Shanda O’Neil; 20 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
