Dollie Anita Shepherd was born on March 19, 1937 in Coryell County, to the late Elliot Lee and Clara Mae Fletcher Gilbreath, the seventh of eight children.  She was the proud mother of son, Robert Henry Shepherd III and daughter, Danita Shepherd Rasmussen.  She loved being a grandmother to both Tyler and Travis. She enjoyed attending their athletic events and graduations.  When they married their wives Erica and Katie, she said she finally had granddaughters. Her joy was complete when her newest grandson, Erik Robert was born. When she became a great-grandmother to Whitney, she couldn’t wait to hold her new great grandbaby.  She loved her nieces and nephews and always wanted to know what was happening in their lives. She enjoyed her girlfriends, weekends at the lake, birthdays, holidays, vacations and football games, especially the Cowboys.  Born on a farm in Leon Junction, Texas she had a green thumb and always had a garden.  Her parents raised her to be a hard worker.  She used this background to become an accomplished businesswoman.  Starting off as a file clerk at Employers Insurance, she continued to obtain the designations of Certified Life Underwriter and FLMI. She always wanted a college degree. Keeping that as her focus, she went to college for six years at night and worked during the day. At the age of 47, she received her B.S. in Business and Public Administration from the University of Texas at Dallas. She always said that education was the key to success. Her hard work and thirst for knowledge resulted in many promotions and finally the position of Project Manager. As the Assistant Secretary, she was the third female officer in the history of Employers Insurance.

Dollie was extremely proud of her family’s Scottish Heritage and was part of Clan Galbraith.  She loved to travel throughout the US and had many out of country trips to Europe and South America.  Her favorite was a trip to Scotland with her daughter, brother, nieces and nephews.  She loved Scotland but was always proud to be an American.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Doris Alene Wall and Ruth Gilbreath Jones; brothers, Travis Lee, Elliot Leonard “Sis”, Wallace Adrian “Cotton”, Byron Alexander “Bub”, and Wesley Benton Gilbreath.

Dollie is survived by her son, Robert Henry Shepherd III of Humble Texas and daughter, Danita Shepherd Rasmussen and husband, Dane of St. Augustine, Florida; grandchildren, Robert Tyler Rasmussen and wife, Erica of Friendswood, Texas, Travis Clayton Rasmussen and wife, Katie of Winter Garden, Florida, and Erik Robert Shepherd of Houston, Texas; great granddaughter, Whitney; and beloved nieces and nephews.
