Deborah Jean Dyer

Deborah (Debbie) Jean Dyer, age 73, of Gatesville, passed away on Friday, April 19, 2024.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 1, at Scott’s Funeral Home, with Pastor Bruce Cox officiating.

Deborah was born on October 15, 1950, in Gatesville to Fred Dyer Jr. and Evelyn Williams Dyer. Deborah grew up in Gatesville and graduated from Gatesville High School in 1969. Deborah spent many hours at Dyer’s, the family restaurant. She was a proud alum of Tarleton State University, graduating with a teaching degree. She held education close to her heart and was a teacher for many years. She was quick to correct your grammar and took advantage of every teachable moment. Everything was a potential lesson. Debbie found solace and community in her faith at White Mound Baptist Church in Mound, Texas.

Deborah was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law, Gene Arnold.

Debbie is a cherished mother to her son, Travis Koontz. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Gloria Koontz, who she considered her own; her adored granddaughter, Magnolia; sister, Suzanne (Suzie) Arnold; brother, Fred (Trey) Dyer III and wife, Rene; nephew, Peyton Dyer; niece, Dawn Holden and husband, David Pratt; and great nieces and nephews, Landon, Lane, Madilyn and Latham.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to White Mound Baptist Church, P.O. Box 102, Mound, Texas 76558.
