David Wayne Coger

David Wayne Coger, 77 of Gatesville, passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2026, with his loving family and friends by his side.

David was born December 28, 1948 in Locust Grove, Oklahoma to Charles Otto Coger and Velda Faye Fleming. He was the third of six children. David attended school in Locust Grove, graduating from Locust Grove High School in 1967. Following high school, he attended Northeastern Oklahoma College in Miami, Oklahoma, graduating in 1969. His dream was to continue his education at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater to become a veterinarian. That dream was never to be; David had the mumps at six weeks old which left him with almost no hearing.

David had a very strong work ethic that remained central throughout his life. At the early age of five, he was delivering newspapers door to door alongside his brother, Ronnie. David continued delivering newspapers until he graduated high school. When the newspaper office learned that David was graduating and planning to attend college, they generously gave him money toward his tuition and honored him with a certificate recognizing him as their longest serving newspaper carrier.

In 1968, David met and married his college sweetheart, Twila Trinkle. Together they had two sons, Chuck and Tommy, of whom David was incredibly proud. He taught his boys to play golf and fish, and he was thrilled to discover that both were talented at each. David often encouraged them to pursue their talents and even dreamed that one day they might turn professional. His boys meant the world to him, and he had hoped to see them before he passed.

In 2019, David met and married Roberta (Bobbie) Wilson in Sutherland Springs, Texas. Through this marriage, David gained four daughters, five grandsons, two granddaughters, four great-grandsons, and two great-granddaughters. He welcomed each of them into his heart and loved them all as his own.

David enjoyed many hobbies and could often be found outdoors. He was an avid golfer, bass fisherman, hunter, woodworker, and gardener. He especially enjoyed raising irises and roses and took great pride in his large vegetable garden. After canning and freezing enough to provide for his family, David generously shared the rest of his harvest with others.

David also loved traveling in his motor home and enjoyed the freedom of exploring the country. Over the years, he visited approximately 35 states, often staying at resorts along the way. His travels allowed him to meet many interesting people from all walks of life, including doctors, lawyers, and CEOs.

David was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; five grandparents; twenty-two aunts and uncles; and three nephews.

He is survived by his wife, Bobbie; brothers, Ronnie Coger and Nancy Weens of Pryor, Oklahoma, Mike Coger and wife Donna of Cement, Oklahoma, Tim Coger and wife Roseanne of Williston, Florida; sister, Susan Neighbors and husband Jeff of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; sons, Charles (Chuck) Coger and wife Denielle of Robert Lee, Texas, and Thomas (Tom) and wife Danita of Northport, Alabama; step daughters, Bobbi Williams and husband Herb of LaVernia, Texas, Becky Massey and husband Russell of Manassas, Virginia, Francine Reaville and husband Brad of Enid, Oklahoma, Aelita Pritchett and Alex Flittner of Williamsburg, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and many friends and neighbors.

Celebration of Life services will be held at a later date in Oklahoma.

David chose to give the gift of life even after his passing through the donation of his organs and tissue. In keeping with David’s generous spirit, his family asks that you consider becoming an organ and tissue donor and giving others the opportunity to live on through your gift.
