Dale Lan White, 91, of Austin, Texas, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 24, 2025. He was born on July 28, 1934, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Landrus Bristow and Edra Mae White, and grew up with a deep love for family, community, and life’s simple joys.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 11, 2025 at Gatesville Church of Christ with Ministers Loyd Hall and Deral McWhorter officiating.
Dale graduated from the School of Pharmacy at The University of Texas in June 1956, and married Laura Courtney on June 17, 1956. He obtained his pharmacist license that year, then worked in Graham, Weatherford, and Cleburne, Texas. When the family moved to Gatesville in 1964, he was employed at City Drug Store, which he later owned for many years, where many patrons enjoyed spinning on the stools at the old-fashioned soda fountain. “Gatesville’s favorite pharmacist” was only a phone call away 24/7/365 if someone needed their medication after store hours. He held his license for nearly 53 years and retired in 2009.
His legacy is one of love, integrity, and service, demonstrated by his volunteer work of many years at the Care Center, acting as a Gatesville City Council member from 1970 to 1976, and providing continual support in school and community events, as well as many other charities. His kindness and generosity touched countless lives, though he never cared for the spotlight or sought recognition. His greatest reward was knowing others were cared for; he was always giving, always helping, and never asking for anything in return.
Dale was a faithful member of the Gatesville Church of Christ and lived his faith with deep dedication. He was a quiet and steady foundation for his family and friends. Near the end of his life’s journey, he told the family not to be sad, and that it would be his pleasure to go Home. Our precious memories and his values will forever guide our lives.
His life was a joy to his wife Laura; daughter Michele Thompson and husband Dale; daughter Suzanne White; granddaughter Courtney Cadena, her husband Ruben, and great-granddaughter Audrey. He is also survived by his sisters, Eddie Lou McPherson and Betty Nichols, and a multitude of nephews and nieces, cousins and friends.
