Connie Smith

Connie Smith, age 91 of Gatesville, passed away on the evening of July 11, 2021 in Gatesville. A Celebration of Life service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at The Presbyterian Church of Gatesville.

Connie was born on August 24, 1929 in Pulaski, Wisconsin to the late Rev. Walter T. Gigstad and Selma Winingstad Gigstad.

Connie was very proud of her Norwegian heritage. Whether it was the lefsa or the lutefisk (dried cod) that did it, something permeated that descendent for generations. Even the most Americanized person of Norwegian lineage is pleased to be descended from that Viking line.

Some of Connie’s favorite things to do were to cook and travel. She was always ready to go on the next adventure. If you mentioned going her bags were packed and ready.

While attending Clifton Jr. College she met and married Gordon Smith whom she adored. After Gordon graduated N.T.S.U. they moved to Gatesville where Gordon coached and taught for GISD. Connie finished her education graduating from Mary Hardin Baylor College with a B.A. degree in education. They both taught for many years for GISD. Connie and Gordon both loved what they did.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon; two brothers, Wally and Gig; and two sisters, Marie and Karen.

Connie is survived by her children, Becky Berry, Larry Smith and wife, Christie; five grandchildren, Kimberly Pearce, Krista Moreland, April Gregg, Amanda Fritz and Adam Smith; seven great-grandchildren, Macie Pearce, McKenzie Moreland, Kallyn Moreland, Connor Gregg, Caroline Gregg, Anna Fritz and Erica Fritz; and two sisters, Audni and Jordice.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the charity of your choice or The Presbyterian Church, 1110 E. Main St. Gatesville, TX 76528.
