Charles Wendell Munson, lovingly known as “C.W.,” passed away peacefully on May 16, 2026, in Temple, Bell County, Texas, surrounded by the love of his daughters and grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 22, 2026, at Restland Cemetery in Gatesville. A celebration of Charles’ life, where family and friends can gather to honor his memory, share stories, and celebrate the incredible man he was, will follow at 1:00 p.m. at his daughter's home located at 17 Comanche Lane, Morgans Point Resort, Texas 76513.
Born on March 3, 1941, in Livingston, Polk County, Texas, Charles was the son of Roscoe and Syble Munson. He was raised in Livingston until answering the call to serve his country by joining the United States Army in September 1959 at just 18 years old. Charles proudly served for 20 years, including two tours in Vietnam in 1965 and 1970, along with several European assignments. During his distinguished military career, he served as a military police officer, sharpshooter, and detective liaison before retiring at Fort Hood in Bell County, Texas.
Charles was a devoted husband, a loving father to his girls, a proud grandpa, and a loyal friend. He had the biggest heart and a kindness that touched everyone fortunate enough to know him. More than anything, he loved his family deeply and treasured every moment spent with them. His strength, wisdom, humor, and unconditional love will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe and Syble Munson, and by his beloved wife, Julia.
He is survived by his daughters; Patricia Munson Rodriguez and husband Jimmy of Harker Heights, Texas, Jo Ann Munson Dugger and husband Glenn of Morgan’s Point, Texas, Ramona Munson Osmer and husband Joe of South Carolina, Dandy Munson Nychay and husband Bill of Georgetown, Texas, and Julie Munson Puente and husband Will of Texas; seven wonderful grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Charles is also survived by six stepchildren: Bobby, Dora, Manuel, Tony, Rachel, and Joey DeLaRosa; his sister, Pat Munson-Emmons of Livingston, Texas; along with extended family members who loved him dearly.
