Charles William Huckabee, age 74 of Jonesboro, passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2024.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 12, 2024 at Scott’s Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Morris officiating. Interment will follow at Ireland Cemetery. Charles’ family will receive visitors thirty minutes before services at the funeral home.
Charles William Huckabee was born on May 15, 1949, to the late Roy and DeEtta Huckabee. He grew up in Jonesboro where he attended school, graduating in 1967. He was drafted into the United States Army after high school. He served 20 years in the military, spending most of his years working at M.A.T.E.S. After he retired from the military, he worked several years as a civilian contractor, working as a tank mechanic. He then returned to work as a parts specialist for the City of Temple, where he received his Automotive Service Excellence certification (A.S.E.).
Charles married Terry Roberts June 3, 1972. They had three children. He completed his family in 1999, when he married Margaret Vann and added two children, establishing their home in Pendleton. Charles loved his trains and woodworking. He spent many hours in his shop tinkering and Margaret would have to make him come in to eat. He said what he meant and meant what he said which led many to think he was a grouch; however, he would give the shirt off his back which shows he was a real sweetheart. He had a heart of gold and had a romantic side many did not see.
He was preceded in death by his parents; late wife, Terry Huckabee; mother-in-law, Emma (Nano) Vann; and sister, Nora Ann.
Charles is survived by wife, Margaret; daughters, Michelle Hill, husband Brett and children Emma and Kiersten; Tammy Huckabee; Tracy Hutchison, husband Frank and children Holli, Tessa, Tristan, Ilexia, and Heirmoinie; Tanya Aviles, husband, Louis and children Dejondra, Nathaniel, Isaiah, Sedgerick, and Jacob; son, Daniel Lehmann, wife, Christy and daughter, Makenzie; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Darla, and husband David; Larue, and husband Bobby; Donna and husband Jay; brother, Ronald (Hefty) and wife Judy; and dog, Jay Jay.
