Carolyn Dee Hartis

Carolyn Hartis, age 81 of Gatesville, passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2026.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 24, 2026 at Restland Cemetery in Gatesville, with Pastor Kurt Fuessel officiating. The family will receive visitors from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at Scott’s Funeral Home.

Carolyn Dee Hartis was born January 12, 1945, in Muroc, California to the late Edwin and Juanita Diserens Petree. She attended school in Gatesville, graduating from Gatesville High School in 1963. On June 21, 1963, she married Don Hartis, and together they made their home in Gatesville. Carolyn worked as a bookkeeper for banks in Gatesville, Clarksville, Tennessee, and Temple, Texas, before she and Don opened Don’s Grocery and Meat Market in 1976.

She enjoyed sewing, crossword puzzles, playing games, spending time with her beloved dog, Harley Wayne, and traveling with Don after retirement. Carolyn was a member of Mountain Baptist Church.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband of 62 years, Don Hartis. She is survived by her son, Greg Hartis; and her brother, Charles Petree and his wife, Alisa.
