Carol Ann Vodrey

Carol Ann Vodrey, age 68 of Gatesville, passed away on the morning of April 17, 2021 in Temple. A memorial service will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 1, 2021 at Scott’s Funeral Home.

Carol was born on March 6, 1953 in Cottage Grove, Oregon to the late Carol William Young and Frankie Ward Young. They were a military family and traveled to Germany a few times but their home was in Copperas Cove where she was a graduate. Carol and her husband John then chose Gatesville as their home.

Carol became a correctional officer in the 80’s where she worked until retirement.  After retiring from the prison system she took a job with the school system.  She loved working the car line at the elementary school. Helping the kids to and from the cars in the morning and afternoon was the highlight of her day.  After several years at the school she left so she and John could travel and enjoy their life together.

Carol loved her family and friends and enjoyed spending time with them at family gatherings.  She was known as the family photographer.  She was always up for a road trip, especially if it involved camping.  When she wasn’t traveling, she enjoyed sitting with a cup of coffee and a good book, or spending her time on Facebook replying to everyone’s post making sure they knew she was reading them.  She loved her furbabies as well.  There wasn’t an animal alive that she didn’t try to love and take home. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Vodrey; her father and mother, Carol and Frankie Young; and brother, Calvin Young. 

Carol is survived by her daughter, Michelle Vodrey Robinson; son-in-law, Jeff Robinson; granddaughter, Olivia Robinson; brothers, Jerry and Billy Young; God children, Jaycee Moses, Heather Gribble and Frank Johnson.
