Obituary

Carl Dixon “Dick” Clark, 87, passed away on October 18, 2026. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 24, 2026 at Scott’s Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service.

Dick was born on March 28, 1939, in Decatur, Texas, to Carl B. Clark and Juanita M. Clay Clark. He graduated from Arlington Heights High School in Fort Worth, Texas, in 1957. After graduation, he proudly served four years in the U.S. Navy. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from TCU in 1966 then continued his education, earning a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Master of Science from North Texas University in 1969.

After graduation, he relocated to Gatesville to work at the Texas Youth Commission as a clinical psychologist. He retired from TYC in 1995.

As a young man, Dick was a gifted athlete. He played baseball and was a boxer. He developed an appreciation of music at an early age, taking piano lessons and singing bass in the Church of Christ. Dick sang in the Abilene Christian University choir. He appreciated all genres of music and especially enjoyed the Beatles.

A chance encounter at his apartment complex with a cute brunette named Barbara led to a lifetime of love and happiness. Dick and Barbara married on March 6, 1971. Together, they raised their daughter Lisa. After their retirement, they enjoyed many years of travel, including numerous trips to England where they developed close friendships. They shared 55 years together.

Dick had a mastery of words, a fierce moral compass, a forgiving heart, and, by all accounts, could have benefited from GPS before it was available. He had an uncanny way of getting lost, yet somehow finding his way to destinations.

He was dedicated to his family, a reverent son to his mother, a great big brother, a devoted husband and a beloved father to Lisa. He was a treasured father figure to his siblings and their children, an uncle, a fun granddad and great-granddad extraordinaire.

His family will miss his generosity and lavish praise and encouragement. Even in his last days, he asked, “What can I do for you?” We can let you go, knowing you are in the arms of your Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He lives forever in our hearts.

Dick is survived by his wife, Barbara Miller Clark; his daughter, Lisa Haines (Randy); grandsons Barrett Haines and Brett Haines (Laura); great-granddaughters Sage Haines and Tate Haines; siblings Kay Clark, Sam Clark (Jane), and Glen Clark; nieces and nephews Melissa Winblood, Laura Lunsford (Jamie), Ty Clark (Tracy Truong), and Paige Clark (Alex O’Gorman); and great-nieces and nephews Cierra Franco (Archit Kaushik), Ryan Franco (Ellie Sheahan), Evan Lunsford, Seth Lunsford, Randigrace Lunsford, Nico Clark, Zofie Clark, and Otis O’Gorman.

A special thanks to the nursing and PT staff at Hillside Medical Lodge for the wonderful care he received.

Dick was an animal lover. The family asks that donations be made to a local animal shelter in Dick’s memory.
