Billie Young

Billie Young, age 89, passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2024.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday May 30, 2024, at the Gatesville Church of Christ with Minister Deral McWhorter officiating.   The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service at the Church.  Interment will follow at Wood Cemetery.

Billie was born on November 1, 1934 in Bangs, Texas along with her twin brother, JB, to Vester and Fannie Cooper.  She graduated from Jonesboro High School in 1953.  On December 23, 1955, she married Harold Young, and they made their home in Houston where they were blessed by three daughters.  In 1967, the family purchased Harold’s family farm and moved to Pancake.  Billie and Harold celebrated 50 years of marriage prior to his passing in 2006.    

Billie was a homemaker while her children were young.  She later began employment with the Texas Department of Corrections, working in the mail room before retiring after 14 plus years.  She enjoyed quilting with the ladies at the Jonesboro Quilting Club, volunteering at the Gatesville Care Center, and also working the election voting in Jonesboro.  Billie was a longtime member of the Gatesville Church of Christ.  

Billie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; and grandson, Eric Lilljedahl.

She is survived by her daughters, Karen Lilljedahl and husband Carl of Stephenville, Melinda Burke and husband, Tony of Gatesville, and Carol Ann Hill and husband, Rusty of Hewitt; brother, JB and Wife, Cathryn; sister, Mary Cooper; grandchildren, Amber, Sarah, Katy, Emily, Matthew, Marcus, Zach, Mason and Aaron; and 18 great grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank the Coryell Welcome Program and Bluebonnet Hospice for their excellent care.
