Bill Nelson

Bill Nelson, age 80 of Gatesville, passed away on Monday, October 3, 2022 in McGregor, Texas.

Graveside services with full military honors will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 10, 2022 at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen.  Funeral services will follow the graveside service at 12:00 noon, Monday at Trinity Baptist Church, with Rev. Sam Crosby officiating.  The family will receive visitors from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, October 9^th at Scott’s Funeral Home, 2425 E. Main St., Gatesville.

Billy Wayne Nelson was born on October 31, 1941 in LaFayette, Georgia to the late Daniel and Goma Chastain Nelson.  He grew up in Chicago, Illinois and entered the United States Army at a young age.  During his military career, he was stationed in Belgium and Korea, and retired in 1988.  He married Bonnie King on November 8, 1975.  He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his son, Jason Nelson.

Bill is survived by his wife, Bonnie Nelson; children, Mitchell, Eric, Lola, Sheila, Rodney, Brandon and Lynetta; grandchildren, Margaret, Tyler, Sarah, Amos, Camilla, Joseph, Luciana, Mauricio, Jairo, Ashley; and numerous great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be designated to Trinity Baptist Church, 1506 W. Main Street, Gatesville, TX 76528.
