Belva Jean Perkins, age 85 of Evant, passed away on Sunday, April 5, 2020 in Gatesville.

Private family graveside services were held at Murphree Cemetery in Evant, with Rev. Judith Sellers, officiating.  

Belva was born on August 19, 1934 in Coryell County, to the late Joseph Weldon (Curly) and Ruby Adeline Braziel Gilchrest.  She went to school in Turnersville, where she enjoyed playing basketball.  She spent most of her adult life in Evant and married Sheldon Perkins on November 22, 1987.  They loved doing things together, one of which was to go dancing.  Later in life, they enjoyed gardening, fishing, watching horse races and playing “Forty-Two”.  In her early working years, she was a secretary.  After moving to Evant, she was a cashier at the local grocery store and a teller at the Evant National Bank.  In 1980, she started working for T.D.C.J and retired as a Lieutenant in 1996.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Evant, where she loved singing in the choir.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughters, Karen King and Cindy Perkins.

She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Sheldon Perkins; two daughters, Beverly Marwitz and husband, Scott of Evant, Gay McCarty of Gatesville; three step-sons, Lynn Perkins and wife, Ladelle of Lampasas, Kirk Perkins of Lampasas, Keith Perkins of Houston; brother, Jerry Gilchrest of Connecticut; sister, Cheryl Eary and husband, Delton of Gatesville; ten grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren.
