Barbara Jean Blanchard, 89 of Gatesville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, surrounded by her family.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 6, 2026, at Scott’s Funeral Home, with Pastor Lynn Parks officiating. Interment will follow at Smith-King Cemetery. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Barbara was born on February 9, 1937 to the late Joseph and Eva Biddy Barr. She was the ninth of ten children and grew up in Flat, where she attended school. She graduated as salutatorian of the Flat High School Class of 1955. On July 24, 1955, she married Charles Vernon Blanchard and together they made their home in Fort Worth. Barbara and Charles managed movie theaters in Beaumont, Greenville, and Nacogdoches before moving back to Gatesville in 1985. They owned and operated “The Movie Store” in Gatesville, Hamilton, and McGregor until they retired.
Barbara found joy in traveling, playing bingo, trying her luck on slot machines, and listening to Elvis Presley. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, attending family reunions, and making memories with her grandchildren.
Barabara was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles; and eight siblings.
She is survived by her four children, Mark Blanchard, Linda Pritchard, James Blanchard, and David Blanchard; brother, Sherman Barr; 10 grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren.
