Ann Kelly Miller, 86, of Gatesville, Texas, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 4, 2026. A devoted teacher, volunteer, faithful friend, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Ann lived a life defined by love, laughter, service, and unwavering dedication to others. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 11 at First Methodist Church of Gatesville. A reception will be held at the church following the services.
Ann was born on July 16, 1939, in Denton, Texas, to Charlene and L.W. Kelly. As the eldest of three daughters, she helped set the tone for a family filled with love and strong bonds. After the family settled in Baytown, Texas, Ann quickly became known for her outgoing personality and remarkable ability to make lifelong friends wherever she went.
Following her graduation from high school, Ann attended Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, where she was an active member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority. Her years at TCU were filled with treasured friendships and unforgettable memories. It was there that fate intervened in the most unexpected way. One evening, hearing someone in her dorm call out, "Who wants a date tonight?" without hesitation Ann answered, "Me!" That spontaneous response introduced her to Robert "Bob" Miller of Gatesville, Texas. What began as a blind date became a lifelong love story. Ann and Bob were married on January 28, 1961, and shared forty-four wonderful years together until Bob's passing.
After making Gatesville their home, Ann wholeheartedly embraced the community that would become the center of her life. She began her teaching career before stepping away to devote herself to raising their four children. She spent countless hours driving up and down Main Street, making sure each child arrived at practices, games, lessons, and activities, always cheering from the sidelines and making her home a welcoming gathering place where friends and family knew there would always be food, laughter, and open arms.
In 1986, Ann returned to the classroom at Gatesville High School, where she found her true calling inspiring young people. As the yearbook advisor for twenty-one years, she mentored generations of students, encouraging creativity, responsibility, and pride in their school. After twenty-four years of teaching, Ann retired from full-time education, but retirement never truly suited her. She continued serving as a substitute teacher and became a founding member of the GISD Education Foundation, remaining deeply invested in the success of local students and educators.
Faith was the cornerstone of Ann's life. A devoted member of First Methodist Church of Gatesville for sixty-five years, she faithfully served in numerous leadership roles. Of all her ministries, working with the Methodist Youth Fellowship brought her the greatest joy. She possessed a unique gift for connecting with young people, offering encouragement, wisdom, laughter, and unconditional love that continued well beyond their teenage years.
Ann's greatest talent may have been friendship. To so many, she was simply known as "friend." No group embodied that better than her cherished Bridge Bunch. For more than six decades, these remarkable women gathered over countless cups of coffee, endless conversations, hearty laughter, and, occasionally, a competitive game of bridge. Their enduring friendship was one of Ann's greatest blessings.
Ann was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bob Miller; her parents, Charlene and L.W. Kelly; her parents-in-law, Norma Lee and Roger H. Miller; and her sister, Jan Kelly Horner.
She is survived by her children, Robert Miller and wife Becky; Kelly Miller and husband Greg; Roger Miller; and Kathryn Busch and husband Monty. She also leaves behind her treasured grandchildren, Matt and wife Savannah, Aaron and wife Chelsae, Austin, and Andrew; her cherished great-grandson, Axl; her sister, Kay Thornburg and husband Rob; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, former students, colleagues, and countless friends whose lives were made richer by knowing her.
Ann will be remembered for her quick wit, fearless sense of humor, unmistakable honesty, generous heart, and infectious zest for life. She never met a stranger, never passed up an opportunity to encourage someone, and never underestimated the power of laughter shared with friends. Whether in a classroom, a church fellowship hall, around a bridge table, or at her family's dinner table, Ann made people feel seen, welcomed, and loved.
Her legacy lives on in the generations of students she inspired, the community she faithfully served, the family she deeply loved, and the countless friendships she so carefully nurtured. She will be profoundly missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
