Amanda Gwynn Waltrip entered this world with her identical twin sister, Heather, on May 25, 1993 in Sierra Vista, Arizona. Her family relocated to Pflugerville, Texas and she attended the Pflugerville High School. She studied abroad in Germany for a year, then returned to Pflugerville and graduated in 2011.
She attended University of Texas in Arlington and found her T.R.I.B.E. working as the assistant general manager at Freebirds World Burrito. She embodied their values of Teamwork, Relentless energy, Integrity, Best in class, and Empowerment. From then on we relied on her to roll burritos and make queso at family dinners.
Living in Arlington gave her the opportunity to adopt her sidekick, a hound dog named Gypsy. The two moved back to Pflugerville where Amanda found her niche working at TechShop. Amanda excelled as a maker and loved learning how to create works of art with wood and stained glass.
Amanda met her best friend and the love of her life, Robert Lee, at TechShop and the two quickly became inseparable. The two shared a love of cooking, creating art, watching movies, and travel. They built a home together in Manor, Texas, then moved to a beautiful ranch home adjacent to the Lee Family Cave Creek Vineyard in Gatesville, Texas. There Amanda embraced the ranch life, learning to work cattle, herd goats, and tend to the vineyard. She learned to cultivate and process grapes. In fact, much like Jesus, she was a big fan of wine, calling people out on their hypocrisy, and expecting more from people in positions of power.
Amanda passed away suddenly on October 2, 2025, leaving this world a darker place. To know Amanda was to know unconditional love. Whether it be an animal, a person, a place, the environment, or humanity in general, Amanda had pure love in her heart. She wanted to build a better world and always wished the best for others. She was indisputably thoughtful and kind.
Amanda will be greatly missed by the family and friends she leaves behind. She is survived by her loving husband, Robert Lee; her parents, John and Sherry Waltrip; her siblings Jessica (William) Turner, Heather (Brian) McQueen, and Andrew and Matthew Waltrip, and her in-laws, Roy the 3rd and Elisa Lee, and Roy the 4th (Jackie) Lee. She leaves a void in the lives of her niece, Harper McQueen, and her nephew, Roy Lee the 5th, who were most precious to her as well as her grandmother Margaret Waltrip.
A celebration of Amanda's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, located at 3501 Red River St, Austin, Texas 78705.
In lieu of flowers her family asks that you donate to the Dallas Scottish Rite for Children; https://scottishriteforchildren.org/. To further honor Amanda's legacy, take the time to commit a random act of kindness. Everyone who knew Amanda was better for it and she would want you to leave the world a better place.
