Joe E. Herndon, 78, of Gatesville died on Tuesday, December 25, 2007. A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church on Friday, December 28, 2007 at 11:00 AM. A family graveside service at Restland Cemetery will precede the memorial service at 10:00 AM. Visitation will be held at Scott’s Funeral Home from 5 to 7 PM Thursday, December 27, 2007. Joe was born on December 28, 1928 in Panhandle, Texas. He was the son of the late Clyde Eddy Herndon and Faye Roberts Herndon. Joe attended school in Panhandle, TX and Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington, MO. Joe served in the United States Navy Medical Corps prior to graduating from Texas A & M University in 1956. After college he worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Dallas before moving to Waco with the Upjohn Company. He was owner and CEO of Herndon Medical and Surgical Supply in Waco, Texas. He also was a National Sales Manager for Medical Plastics in Gatesville. Joe served as President of the Waco, McLennan County Texas A & M Club, President of the Northwest Waco Kiwanis Club and Chairman of the Board of Lakewood Christian Church, Waco, Texas. He married Barbara Jo Brown in 1985. Joe and Barbara lived on their ranch near Pidcoke and later moved to their home on River Road in Gatesville. He was preceded in death by his brother Clyde W. Herndon. Survivors include his wife, Barbara; son, Paul Herndon and wife Stephanie of Gilmer, TX; daughter, Jane Herndon of Rockville, MD; mother of his children, Bonny Herndon; grandchildren, Mark Herndon and Jacob Herndon of Gilmer. He is also survived by a step-son, Brian Brown and wife Veronica of Valencia, CA; step-grandchildren, Alexandria, Logan, Tanner and Isabella Brown all of Valencia, CA. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Gatesville, Texas and to the American Heart Association.
