Eva Louise Smith, 90, of Gatesville passed away on Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at a local care center. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, October, 15, 2007 at Scott’s Funeral Home with Dr. Steve Dominy officiating. Burial will follow at Hemmeline Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM on Sunday at the funeral home. Mrs. Smith was born on March 9, 1917 in Gatesville to the late Martin and Mary Mack. She attended Plainview School and graduated from Gatesville High School in 1935. She attended what is now Tarleton State University and received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin. She also received her master’s degree from Baylor University. Eva Louise grew up in Bethel Heights Baptist Church and was a member of First Baptist Church of Gatesville for over 50 years. She married Carroll P. Smith on September 6, 1941. She taught 4 ½ years at Coryell City and 26 years in Gatesville, teaching first grade and special education. She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, step-mother, Eula Bea Mack; brother, Robert Mack; sisters, Lillian Oates and Margaret Fertig. Mrs. Smith is survived by her sons, Ronald Smith, Dale Smith of Gatesville; brothers, Harry Mack and wife Joyce of Corvallis, OR, Jay Nottingham and wife Sue of Bella Vista, AR; sisters, Helen Tatum of Early, TX, Mildred Hale of Ft. Worth, TX and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 912 E. Main, Gatesville, Hemmeline Cemetery Association, 1050 FM 1783 in Gatesville, Vista Care Hospice, 2626-B South 37th Street, Temple, TX 76504 or the charity of your choice.
